Visual Identity

Promotional work and educational materials for The Syringa Tree, a story of a South African girl growing up amidst apartheid.

A lone tree is silhouetted against the bright sky: setting the scene for six-year-old Elizabeth. In turbulent 1960's South Africa, young Elizabeth attempts to "make sense of the chaos, magic and darkness of her experience". Learn more about The Syringa Tree.
To communicate the whimsical & imaginative nature of the play, it was important to create a painterly style in this digital piece.
As originally intended by  screenwriter Pamela Gein, the play's 24 diverse characters are portrayed by a single actress.
